Orbital welding

Orbital welding is a technique for performing welding on pipes and tubes. Manual welding performs an adequate job for larger pipes and various piping applications. However, in case of safety requirements for high pressure and for preventing any contamination, orbital welding is a better fit. In orbital welding, a welding head under complete control of a computer is rotated around a pipe or tube to perform the welding operation. Every new job requires a configuration of the program which can then be repeated again and again with constant quality. It primarily uses Tungsten Inert Gas welding in its operations. Inert gas is present both inside and outside of the pipe for shielding against oxidation. It creates a high-grade joint but is an expensive process suited solely for high-end applications in aerospace, pharmaceutical, and semiconductor industries.
