Gas welding

Gas welding is a term commonly used for oxyacetylene welding. In truth, however, gas welding comprises a group of oxyfuel welding processes.

In each of these processes, fuel is combined with oxygen to generate flame for performing welding. The prominent fuel is acetylene making oxyacetylene welding synonymous with gas welding. In oxyacetylene welding, acetylene and oxygen from separate cylinders come together in the welding torch, produce a flame, and provides temperatures of up to 3500 °C. Lower temperatures compared to other welding processes are compensated by inexpensive and portable equipment.

Gas welding is an economical and ideal process for repair jobs and small production. Common welding applications are sheets and plates thinner than 6 mm.
